European Youth Chess Championship under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18

The final ceremony with the participation of ECU president Zurab Azmaiparashvili was the dignified finish after ten days and 5843 games of chess. The medalists received cups, medals and material prizes. It was well deserved as they were the best of a record number of 1309 chess players.

President of the ECU Zurab Azmaiparashvili and Czech minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mladek both visited the championship today.

Two thirds of the tournament are behind us and so is free day with its plentiful choice of trips and side events.

During today's free day, there was a rapid tournament in the morning with 42 participants (results on chess-results here). Much larger (192 participants) was held in the evening, results are here.

Oh, how the time flies! It feels like yesterday when we started preparing championship for more then two thousand visitors and now the first third is already over.

The 26^th European Youth Chess Championship has started on Wednesday evening in TOP HOTEL in Prague. During the opening ceremony the record number of 1309 players and more than one thousand accompanying persons could watch Slovak group „Štiavnický živý šach“ performing live chess in historical costumes.

Notice: The opening ceremony of the European Youth Chess Championship will take place on the parking lot next to the hotel at 19:30 o'clock.
